Polycarbonate

Polycarbonate is naturally transparent and its light transmittance is similar to glass. It has high strength, toughness, heat resistance and excellent dimensional and color stability. VERMET is able to offer polycarbonate sheets, washers, gaskets and polycarbonate strips in a light color. Flame retardants can be added to polycarbonate without significant loss of properties. With a high tensile strength of 55-75 MPa, polycarbonate is suitable for countless applications. In addition, it has a good operating temperature range from -135°C to +115°C.

We manufacture polycarbonate washers and gaskets for applications including visors, machine guards and screens. However, be careful when using polycarbonate with chemicals as its resistance is poor. Its application with water is reasonable, but only at room temperature. When the temperature rises to over 60°C, hydrolysis can occur, degrading the plastic.

The adhesive backing can be applied to one or both sides of any polycarbonate piece we produce.

General characteristics – PC polycarbonate seals:

  • Optical appearance – polycarbonate is often used by VERMET customers to produce screens on machines. This is facilitated by its transparent appearance combined with high impact strength. Applications such as covers for electric meter housings are common.
  • Poor chemical resistance – Polycarbonate has poor resistance to most concentrated acids, as well as halogens and ketones, but is suitable for water at room temperature.
  • Good impact strength – polycarbonate has better impact strength than ABS, nylon and PVC.
  • Price – Due to its excellent physical properties, polycarbonate is one of the more expensive ranges of plastics.
  • Temperatura– Polycarbonate further enhances its reputation with an operating temperature range of -135°C to +115°C.
