Fiber seals

Fiber is a material that we very often use for the production of gaskets, it is a material made of compressed and dried cotton or cellulose fibers, additionally soaked with zinc chloride or sulfuric acid. The fiber soaking procedure is aimed at preliminary, partial dissolution of the fiber, thanks to which the fiber seals acquire a characteristic structure.

Properties – fiber seals

The fiber is characterized by good mechanical properties, high resistance to abrasion, fat and cold water, it can be mechanically and plastically processed. Fiber is obtained by chemically treating cellulose fiber and pressing it into plates, tubes or rods. The specific gravity of the fiber depends on the type and the degree of compression, it ranges from 1.1 to 1.45 kG/dcm3.

  •
  • electrical insulation
  • long-term thermal resistance up to 110 degrees C
  • high mechanical strength and stability at the same time low weight and good flexibility
  • thanks to cellulose, the material is hygroscopic, which means that it can absorb and release moisture from the air, which causes changes in the volume of the fibers
  • ease of mechanical and plastic processing
The best grade is red fibre, called vulcanized fibre. Various seals are made of fiber by cutting on a press or shears, extrusion on a press in a die or by mechanical processing, especially for cold water, gasoline, oils, air, oxygen, acetylene, carbonic acid, ammonia, sulfuric acid anhydride, etc.
