Polyethylene

Polyethylene (PE) is made of polymerized ethylene. The VERMET company supplies polyethylene gaskets. Polyethylene is usually divided into two different types of materials: HDPE (high density) and LDPE (low density). Polyethylene is one of the most widely used thermoplastic materials, mainly due to a combination of its strong properties and relative price. In addition, both LDPE and HDPE have good impact resistance. Both variants are also characterized by a low coefficient of friction and good resistance to electricity and abrasion.

Polyethylene PE 500

VERMET is able to offer seals in an opaque white color. HDPE is available in white or black. The adhesive backing can be used for any variant.

Polyethylene is a non-hygroscopic material that is most commonly used in water tank and piping applications. Due to its good electrical properties, it is also suitable for various electrical insulation applications.

Polyethylene 1000

Plastics from the polyethylene 1000 group are characterized by high abrasion resistance and a low coefficient of friction, which is why the material is used for the production of slides, guides and profiles. The average molecular weight for this group of materials is in the range of 4,500,000 – 9,000,000 g/mol, which makes the material characterized by the highest wear resistance.

If you are looking for a material that is extremely durable, but at the same time has many applications and is safe in contact with food, you have come to the right place. One of the materials that Vermet offers processing is polyethylene 1000, also appearing after the PE-UHMW symbol, with very high abrasion resistance.

This material has certificates confirming the safety of its use in contact with food, and you can work with it in a wide temperature range, so it will be perfect, among others, in the meat industry or fish processing. It is also widely used in agricultural machinery, silos, bottling lines and other places; we encourage you to familiarize yourself with its specification available below.

We have our own technical and tool facilities, thanks to which we can process polyethylene 1000 at the highest level. We will carry out many types of orders – our customers will surely be satisfied with each of them, join their group!

  • Polietylen PE 500

Plastics from the polyethylene 500 group are characterized by rather low abrasion resistance. The material is widely used as non-mechanical parts of machines and devices, tops of cutting tables and slaughter blocks. With an average molecular weight of approx. 500,000 g/mol, the material is characterized by low resistance to mechanical wear.

Properties:

  •
  • wide operating temperature range
  • low coefficient of friction
  • approved for contact with food – certificates of the National Institute of Hygiene, BGA and FDA
  • very high chemical resistance
  • high bending strength
  • no moisture absorption
  • good machinability
  • low density compared to other engineering plastics < 1g/cm3

Example applications:

  •
  • cutting table tops
  • tops of slaughter blocks
  • elements of small kitchen equipment: cutting boards, shovels
  • cold store equipment (doors, sluice elements)
  • protective strips for walls, corners (supermarkets, hospitals, warehouses, halls)
  • low-load structural elements of machines
  • linings of cabins and cooling tunnels
  • agricultural machinery components
  • meat, fish and machine industry

sizes

  •
  • Rods – 6-200mm (diameter)
  • Boards – 1-200mm (thickness)

Polyethylene PE 300

PE300 is characterized by high chemical resistance and very low mechanical strength. The material is used as fillings and not very responsible parts of the structure. With an average molecular weight of approx. 300,000 g/mol, the material is characterized by very low wear resistance and a low price.

Properties:

  •
  • very high chemical resistance
  • high impact strength, also at low temperatures
  • no moisture absorption
  • low density compared to other engineering plastics < 1g/cm3

Example applications:

  •
  • mats
  • insulations
  • linings of galvanic baths
  • fittings components

Sizes:

  •
  • Rods – 10-250mm (diameter)
  • Boards – 1-50mm (thickness)

General characteristics

  • Cheap and reliable – Polyethylene is one of the cheapest thermoplastics available today, but its properties still make it suitable for many applications.
  • Good electrical properties – Polyethylene is commonly used for electrical insulation.
  • Non-hygroscopic – polyethylene does not absorb water and is therefore best suited for plumbing applications.
  • Atmospheric conditions– polyethylene is affected by sunlight and may become brittle or crack over a long period of time. To prevent this, UV stabilizers can be added.
