Polyacetal

Polyacetal, also known as delrin, is made by polymerizing anhydrous formaldehyde to form an oxymethylene chain. It is used by VERMET to produce a variety of acetal gaskets, seals. POM is very strong and stiff with good chemical resistance.

Polyacetal is also a strong material with good dimensional stability and a low coefficient of friction, making it suitable for many applications including gears, locks and inserts.

Polyacetal has an operating temperature range of -40 to +80°C, a tensile strength of 8800 psi and a melting point of 160°C. In addition, POM has excellent resistance to oils and alcohols, but shows poor resistance to acids. If required, the adhesive backing can be applied to one or both surfaces.

General characteristics – POM seals:

  • Low coefficient of friction –  suitable for most moving parts, allowing them to glide smoothly over surfaces with less effort, as well as for bearings, gears and most sliding parts
  • Strong and stiff–  is a very tough and durable material that is suitable for applications where part wear is high
  • Good chemical resistance– provides high oil resistance, which is important in many applications where a lubricating fluid is essential, including bearings.
